Getting married abroad should be no more complicated than getting married at home.
In fact if you decide to use a Wedding Planner or book your wedding through a Tour Operator planning a wedding abroad may actually be easier than planning a wedding at home.
Initially the prospect of planning a wedding abroad may appear slightly daunting and there may be times along the way when you wonder what you're getting yourselves into! I can't promise it will all be smooth sailing but I know from personal experience it's not nearly as difficult to get married abroad as you may first believe.
With a little bit of research and careful planning you will be able to create a wedding that is unique, a wedding that is distinctive, a wedding that surpasses all your expectations and is talked about and remembered by your guests for years to come.
When getting married abroad, your wedding often becomes more than just one day. Many couples make the most of having all their guests in the one location and carry their wedding celebrations over a number of days.
As a result extra work is often required to plan these additional celebrations but this does give you the added bonus of your wedding not being over in the blink of an eye. You may also find the additional celebrations are just as memorable as your wedding day itself.
Obviously if you want to get married abroad choosing your wedding destination has to be at the top of your ‘to do’ list. The country and location of your wedding abroad may be an obvious choice
or you may be in the situation where you know what country would like to get married but don’t know what area to choose. If you love Italy for example, should you get married in Tuscany or on the Amalfi Coast?
Or do you just love the idea of having a Beach Wedding but have no idea what stretch of lovely white sand should play host to your wedding?
When choosing your wedding destination abroad there is no substitute for research. Research the country or countries you would like to get married in, ask family & friends, visit tourist sites, tourist boards or speak to travel agents. When choosing your destination make sure you fully research and understand what the legal requirements are to get married in a particular country. It is vitally important you are fully aware of the legal requirements and are confident you can satisfy them before you make your final destination choice.
In the countries covered in the weddings abroad guide information on legal requirements is provided. However, I would strongly advise you contact the local Embassy or Consulate of the country you would like to get married in to confirm the details. This issue is too important not to get the information first hand.
Another important consideration in choosing your destination is to consider the type and style of wedding you would like to have. Would you like to have a small, medium or large wedding? Is it important to you to be surrounded by family and friends on your wedding day or do you want a small intimate affair?
The further away from home your wedding destination is, the more likely you will have a lower guest acceptance rate. If you choose a destination closer to home, it will be less expensive and may be easier for your guests to travel to.
