Corkage: What is it?

What is corkage?    This refers to the charge applied by the venue if you want to supply your own wine.   The cost can vary, but expect to pay between £8 and £20 per bottle; champagne will be slightly more at around £10 - £25 per bottle.    It may seem a lot of hassle to have to choose and provide your own wine but you will almost certainly save yourself a lot of money and be able to serve your guests a better wine for the price you would generally be paying the venue.    Don’t be put off negotiating a deal with the venue for corkage charges – they will be aiming for at least a 50% profit on their wines, probably more, so there is definitely room for manoeuvre on this cost.
