The entertainer at your wedding will be responsible for creating the right atmosphere and for making sure that your guests are having a good time. This is without a doubt, one of the most important and most difficult jobs that one can have on the big day. That is why it is vital that you pick the right person to make sure your guests are enjoying themselves. Whether you decide to hire a DJ, a band, a singer or even a magician, here are a few tips to help you find the perfect wedding entertainment for your big day.
Search online
There will be plenty of local acts with either own websites or listings on wedding directories. These are a great place to look as some sites have reviews of the performers.
Short list
Once you’ve had a good search around you will soon see that there is no shortage of entertainers, now it is time to narrow it down. Once you have found the type of entertainment you want, try and find demos, videos of their work or testimonials. If you are researching a band try doing a search on YouTube and see if you can find some footage of their work. Try to create a list of your top 5 or so – but no more than 10, you’ll just create too much work for yourself.
Check availability & prices
Sometimes this point makes your decision for you. Wedding season is starting to heat up which means that the competition for high quality entertainment will also increase. Make sure you start looking early and make contact with the entertainer before it is too late. Make sure you check how long they will perform for, just because you book them for the day doesn’t mean they’ll play for as long as you want them too.
Demos & Details
Once they see that you are genuinely interested in the services they may be willing to offer more information. They could do a live practise performance, provide more demos etc. Find out about them as a performer, can they do multiple styles or are they specialists, can they learn new songs for you, etc.
Book
Finally once you have found the right act, book them! You should be able to pay a deposit instead of the whole fee up front but make sure you get a receipt or some form of confirmation that they will be attending.
